This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Sports Program Instructor at The YMCA of Greater Monmouth County intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined. Under the direct supervision of the Regional Youth & Sports Director, the Sports Program Instructor will carry out sport program curriculum, promoting skill development, good sportsmanship, healthy living and a passion for sport participation.

• Teach Fundamental Volleyball Skills
  • Instruct youth participants in basic to intermediate volleyball techniques, including serving, passing, setting, hitting and team strategies in a fun and engaging way.
• Create a Positive Learning Environment
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive atmosphere that encourages teamwork, sportsmanship, confidence, and skill development
• Plan and Lead Practices 
  • Design age-appropriate lesson plans and drills for practices or clinics, ensuring a balance of skill-building, game play and physical activity
• Ensure Safety and Supervision
  • Always supervise participants, enforce safety rules, and respond to injuries or emergencies according to YMCA policies and procedures 

• Minimum 17 years old, 18 years of age or older preferred
• High school education/GED equivalent
• Previous experience playing or coaching sports
• Ability to communicate to youth and adults
• First Aid, CPR/AED certification within 90 days of hire date

• Blood borne Pathogen Online Training
• Notify Wellness Director within 60 days before First Aid, CPR/AED expiration date. The YMCA provides First Aid, CPR/AED recertification classes.
