Overview

Under the direct supervision of the Sports & Youth Enrichment Director, the Kids Club supervisor is responsible for quality childcare and babysitting. The supervisor has a complete knowledge of the YMCA mission, character counts, and programs which include policies, rates, programs, and the facility. The Kids Club supervisor implements the program activities and guides the development of the children, ensuring a safe, enriching, and healthy environment. In the absence of the Sports & Youth Enrichment Director, the Kids Club supervisor assumes a leadership role. The Kids Club supervisor must interact with adults and the children in a harmonious manner.

Responsibilities

  • Must always be on time and ready for your scheduled shift, which includes but is not limited to adhering to the established branch and department dress code.
  • Supervise and interact with children and staff in a drop- in setting.
  • Demonstrate YMCA core character values of honesty, respect, responsibility and caring in all interactions with employees, members, staff, and others; commit to ongoing professional development.
  • Provide exceptional care for children during the day-to-day operation of the Kids Club room. Interact with children during activities.
  • Assist in managing staff schedules and overseeing the daily operations.
  • Help to implement the activities scheduled in an appropriate manner, meeting the needs of the children physically, socially, emotionally, and intellectually.
  • Provide careful, attentive care and is always alert.
  • Use a diverse selection of materials, toys, and experiences for all participants.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the Kids Club room and equipment.
  • Exercise sound judgment in relationship to member safety & injuries. Follow all emergency procedures.
  • Leadership role overseeing activities in Kids Club.
  • Visually inspect work area and equipment for safety and risk, report to supervisor in writing any problems. Responsible for filling out accident/incident reports and getting these reports to the Sports & Youth Enrichment Director. Additionally, immediately report any unsafe or suspicious activity directly to the Sports & Youth Enrichment Director or Director on Duty.
  • Embrace and adhere to service excellence standards; provide outstanding service to your customers and constituents.
  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with youth. Complete required abuse risk management training. Follow mandated abuse reporting procedures, including reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations
  • Enhanced cleaning in areas where the employee is not directly/normally assigned as well as normally assigned areas. All employees are expected to assist in and support the efforts of the YGMC when it comes to health and wellness for the facility and other locations where the YGMC conducts business. All employees are expected to wipe machines, screens, computers, phones or anything that is used after they use it, all employees are expected to wash their hands on a frequent basis (recommended every 30 minutes if possible) and use hand sanitizer when hand washing is not available.
  • The employee may be assigned to areas other than their normally assigned area as needed to meet organizational needs. Examples of this include, but are not limited to, being assigned areas to count people, help direct flow of traffic in an area, being assigned to a specific area to assist with doors, and any other duty as needed by the organization.
  • Represent the YMCA in a professional manner and promote a positive and cheerful environment.
  • Attend and participate in all required staff meetings and continue job training.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 18 years of age
  • High School education/GED equivalent
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience within a Kids Club, daycare, or similar child-focused setting.
  • The individual should have a broad understanding of childcare policies.
  • The individual must possess and demonstrate the ability to engage in all the activities associated with the daily routines of the program’s children, including but not limited to interacting with children at floor level, lifting children and equipment, participating in activities such as reading, arts & crafts, and other child engaging activities.
  • Must possess oral and written communication skills appropriate for interacting with both adults and children.
  • Effective communication, customer service and critical thinking skills
  • The incumbent must be able to delegate appropriate responsibilities to the staff to accomplish the necessary duties.
  • First Aid, CPR/AED certification within 90 days of hire date
