Overview

Join our YMCA Team! Are you an experienced bus driver with a valid CDL P & S endorsement, looking for a rewarding seasonal opportunity? Our camp is seeking a caring driver who likes to work with kids to join our team as a seasonal Bus Driver. In this role, you'll conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections, maintain accurate records, and participate in training sessions and meetings. Safely transport campers to and from various destinations, and occasionally run field trips with a wait and return service.

 

This position offers a Monday to Friday schedule from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with a hard start date of June 26th through August 18th. Responsibilities

Drives bus safely according to YMCA policies and procedures and state laws.

 

• Develops and maintains positive relationships with volunteers, members or program participants, and colleagues at all levels of the organization.

 

• Creates a safe environment in which others feel welcome and respected.

 

• Promotes safety at all times by keeping first aid supplies fully stocked.

 

• Ensures that bus rules are announced and followed.

 

• Completes thorough before-and-after trip checks each day and records all information, such as gas level, mileage, and maintenance on designated forms.

 

• Cleans out bus each day

 

• Communicates regularly with other staff members and supervisor. Complete mandatory staff trainings (in person and online), Complete Staff Skills Verification prior to camp.

 

• Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including but not limited to  child abuse prevention and situations warranting discipline. Be prepared for first aid and medical emergencies  as described in the Camp Training Manual.

 

• Adhere to policies related to boundaries with youth. Complete required abuse risk management training. Follow mandated abuse reporting procedures, including reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.

Qualifications

  • At least 21 years of age
  • At least one-year work experience as a bus driver preferred 
  • Enjoys and is physically able to work outdoors
  • CPR, First Aid, Epi-pen, & AED certified prior to the start of camp
  • Possess appropriate class license (CDL with passenger)
  • Knowledge of the rules/guidelines related to commercial passenger vehicles (bus)
  • Desire and ability to work with children
